Medfly Tri-Med Lure

Medfly tri-med (TML) lure is a pheromone-based attractant lure for Mediterranean fruit fly (Ceratitis capitata). Also known as medfly. Combine the TML lure with an ISCA Ball Trap, or similar trap, to monitor Mediterranean fruit fly populations.

Target Crop

Mediterranean fruit fly is a polyphagous pest known to attack a very broad range of fruit and vegetable crops. The TML lure is designed for use anywhere Mediterranean fruit flies may be present.

  • Effectively monitors the presence of Mediterranean fruit fly (Ceratitis capitata) in a crop
  • Provides accurate pest pressure data to determine the most cost-effective and productive control solution
  • Saves input costs by reducing the risk of overspraying
  • Helps reduce human and environmental exposure to pesticides
  • Reduces the possibility of pesticide resistance by limiting their excessive use

TML lure consists of a controlled release polymeric plug impregnated with a specific pheromone that attracts male Mediterranean fruit fly. When combined with a Ball trap the pheromone will attract and catch Mediterranean fruit fly enabling accurate crop monitoring.

Plug the lure inside the lure receptacle that sits in the top of the Ball Trap. Fill the bottom section with water. Only one TML lure is needed per trap. Traps should be placed on the edge of crops or, if possible, a few rows in on the windward side of the field. Position traps at canopy height, sheltered inside the tree, or in a shaded location wherever the pest usually resides.

We recommend adding Torula Yeast Pellets into the trap base in order to also attract female Mediterranean fruit fly as the TML lure only attracts males.

Check the trap regularly (every few days) for Mediterranean fruit fly. Top up water levels when they fall to halfway. Replace the TML lure with a new lure at least every 4 – 8 weeks. When handling the lure wear disposable gloves and avoid contaminating the outside of the trap with the pheromone. Discard old lures and all material that was in contact with the lures from the field. This includes the TML lure packaging and disposable gloves.

Application Rate

Insert 1 TML lure per trap. For monitoring purposes use at least 2 traps/ha and at least 2 traps per location. For mass trapping use 50-100 traps/ha.

For best results consult a qualified pest control advisor or your distributor for specific instructions regarding the application rate and timing for TML lure application, as these will vary depending on pest population, crop, and field conditions.

Suitable for use in any crop vulnerable to Mediterranean fruit fly.
