Torula Yeast Pellets
Torula Yeast Pellets are an effective attractant for the monitoring of various fruit flies species including Mediterranean fruit fly (Ceratitis capitata) and Queensland fruit fly (Bactrocera tyroni). They can also be used for other pests which are attracted to yeast proteins like some leafminer species and spotted wing drosophila (Drosophila suzukii).
Combine the Torula Yeast Pellets with an ISCA Ball Trap, or similar trap, to monitor fruit fly populations.
Target Crop
Mediterranean and Queensland fruit flies are polyphagous pests known to attack a very broad range of fruit and vegetable crops. The Torula Yeast Pellets are designed for use anywhere fruit flies may be present.
- Effectively monitors the presence of Mediterranean fruit fly (Ceratitis capitata) and Queensland fruit fly (Bactrocera tyroni) in a crop
- Provides accurate pest pressure data to determine the most cost-effective and productive control solution
- Saves input costs by reducing the risk of overspraying
- Helps reduce human and environmental exposure to pesticides
- Reduces the possibility of pesticide resistance by limiting their excessive use
When the Torula Yeast Pellets are added to water, fruit flies are strongly drawn to the fermenting solution as a food source. By placing the pellets in an ISCA Ball Trap the system will attract and catch fruit flies enabling accurate crop monitoring.
Fill the bottom of the ISCA Ball Trap with water and place 3 Torula Yeast Pellets into the water. Screw the clear top on and hang the trap. Traps should be placed on the edge of crops or, if possible, a few rows in on the windward side of the field. Position traps at canopy height, sheltered inside the tree, or in a shaded location wherever the pest usually resides.
Torula Yeast Pellets tend to attract more female flies than males. In regions with Mediterranean fruit flies we recommend including the TML lure for additional crop monitoring and protection. The TML lure uses a specific sex pheromone to attract male Mediterranean fruit flies. Only one TML lure is needed per trap and should be placed in the top receptacle (not into the liquid at the base).
Check the trap regularly (every few days) for fruit flies and top up water levels when they fall to halfway. Replace the entire solution every 4-8 weeks with fresh water and Torula Yeast Pellets. If using the TML lure it should also be replaced every 4 – 8 weeks.
Application Rate
Insert 3 Torula Yeast Pellets per Ball Trap. For monitoring purposes use at least 2 traps/ha and at least 2 traps per location. For mass trapping use 50-100 traps/ha.
For best results consult a qualified pest control advisor, or your distributor, for specific instructions regarding the application rate and timing of Torula Yeast Pellets as these will vary depending on pest population, crop, and field conditions.
Suitable for use in any crop vulnerable to fruit flies.
Store unused Torula Yeast Pellets sealed in the original container. Store in a cool, dry place, away from heat and out of direct sunlight.
