These application rates should be used as a guide only, as application rates will vary according to local soil conditions and would therefore depend on a comprehensive soil analysis.

Home Garden Application Rates
As a guide, one adult handful holds about 70g. One cupful holds about 100g.

Flowers and vegetables |
Spread 100g per square metre prior to planting and then every 6 weeks during the growing season. |
Fruit trees (all types) |
Apply 500g per tree for each year of the tree’s age (up to 2.5kg), once in spring and again in autumn. |
Native shrubs, rhododendrons, azaleas and acid loving plants |
Apply 50-100g per plant once in spring and again in autumn. |
Planting trees and shrubs |
Apply 200-500g into the planting hole. |
Potted plants |
Use 10g for a 15cm diameter pot or 30g for a 30cm pot. |
Other ornamental shrubs and roses |
Apply 100g per square metre every 6-8 weeks from early spring until mid autumn. |
Lawns |
Spread 70g evenly per square metre. |
