Yates RainSaver Water Storing Crystals

Yates RainSaver is what is known as a hydrogel or water crystal product. It contains cross linked polyacryamide polymer (PAM) developed specifically to work in the root zone of plants to help create optimum conditions for plant growth and survival. When placed in the root zone the crystals capture and store up to 250 times their own weight in water and soluble fertilisers, improving the ability of soils and growing media to retain water and nutrients.

Yates RainSaver is suitable for forestry, turf, revegetation, landscaping, inground horticultural crops, bulk potting mixes, established containerised plants and garden beds.

  • Designed specifically to improve the ability of soils and growing media to retain water and plant nutrients
  • Suitable for broad use including in turf, landscaping, revegetation, nurseries, forestry, viticulture, olives, cut flowers, and vegetables
  • Crystals have the highest and fastest absorbency under soil pressure meaning they absorb the most water in real-life conditions
  • 95% of absorbed water and nutrient is available to plants on demand via their roots, which grow directly into the water-swollen crystals
  • pH neutral
  • Highly stable with fertiliser, nutrient, and salt exposure
  • Helps improve soil structure

Polyacryamide co-polymer (PAM) granules (800-2000 microns)

Yates RainSaver looks like sugar granules when dry but, once exposed to water, they swell dramatically to become super absorbent gel-like sponges. Placed in the root zone of plants they capture and store up to 250 times their own weight in water and soluble compounds. These act as additional reservoirs for plants. 95% of the absorbed water and nutrient is available to the plant on demand via their roots, which grow directly into the water-swollen crystals.

The improved moisture supply leads to fast and intensive root growth, and increased survival rates of new plantings. Yates RainSaver is not able to withdraw water from plants so there is no competition with regard to available moisture.

Due to the expansion of the crystals during water uptake, the soil volume changes resulting in reduced soil compaction, improved soil porosity and permeability. This loosening of soil also helps enhance root growth.

Yates RainSaver is made with acrylic acid and acrylamide co-polymers. These are cross-linked to create a three dimensional network that is insoluble in water. Potassium hydroxide and ammonia are added as neutralising agents and essential nutrients for plants. This combination creates crystals with high swelling capacity, long term stability and that are environmentally safe without harmful residues.

Algae and Lichen: 10–15mL per 1L
Moss and Liverwort: 15–30mL per 1L

Situation Weeds controlled Rate Critical comments
Potted ornamental plants, garden beds Algae, lichen, liverwort and moss. 10 –15mL per litre of water Spray only over the soil to thoroughly wet weeds. If spray accidentally contacts foliage of wanted plants, hose off within 5 minutes.
Tiled roofs, rockeries, drives & pathways. Algae, lichen, liverwort and moss. 20mL per litre of water Spray to just wet. For heavy infestation, clean off after 40 hours and reapply.
Bentgrass, Buffalo, couch, fescues and ryegrass grass lawns. Algae, lichen, liverwort and moss. 25mL per litre of water to cover 10m2 Ensure target area is well watered before applying. Good spray coverage is important. Broadcast or spot spraying is acceptable.
Algae and slime control in swimming pools Algae and slime 10mL per 100L Pool disinfectant. Algae control in recirculating water systems.

Suitable for use in forestry, turf, revegetation, landscaping, inground horticultural crops, bulk potting mixes, established containerised plants and garden beds.
